Department of Water and Sanitation to host MOU Launch, and Public Lecture and a Stakeholder Engagement session themed “Unlocking Opportunities in the Water Sector.”

The Department of Water and Sanitation is scheduled to host a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Launch with Lepelle Northern Water. The event will feature a Public Lecture and a Stakeholder Engagement session focused on the theme “Unlocking Opportunities in the Water Sector.” This event is being conducted in collaboration with Lepelle Northern Water to formally inaugurate their existing signed MoU with the University.

The upcoming Public Lecture and Stakeholder Engagement Session is intended to enhance student support and development services within the department. The session aims to raise awareness about career pathways, research opportunities, and potential partnerships within the water sector. It is part of our ongoing efforts to equip students enrolled in our BSc in Water and Sanitation Sciences programme with the knowledge and skills required to explore diverse career opportunities. Since its establishment in 2018, this program has successfully graduated its first cohort of students in 2022, with a focus on training innovative and solution-oriented scientists poised to make significant contributions to the sector.

The Public Lecture will provide a platform for:

  • Showcasing diverse career opportunities in the water and sanitation sector.
  • Facilitating knowledge exchange between industry professionals, students, and faculty members.
  • Fostering networking and mentorship opportunities for students.
  • Exploring potential collaborations and funding opportunities with key stakeholders.

The following organisations will be participating in an event to showcase their roles in the water sector, career opportunities for graduates, and pathways for professional development: Lepelle Northern Water, Department of Water and Sanitation (National & Regional), Capricorn District Municipality, Polokwane Municipality, Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, National Research Foundation, Water Research Commission, CSIR, EWSETA, ESKOM, and SACNASP. Some representatives will be delivering oral presentations, while others will have exhibitions.

The event aims to provide valuable insights to students and bridge the gap between academia and industry. It will help students understand the professional landscape they will encounter after graduation.

The Mankweng Higher Education Circuit Manager is anticipated to bring the top-performing learners to the event. This will expose them to exciting career possibilities and motivate them to pursue academic excellence in Science and Technology.
