SYFERKUIL EXPERIMENTAL FARM

Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms. It can be undertaken in freshwater or seawater. The Aquaculture Research Unit concentrates its teaching, research and outreach efforts on the production of indigenous freshwater warm water fish species and ornamental fish husbandry for the hobbyist market.

In recent years the Aquaculture Research Unit has started looking at inland fisheries. Stock assessment studies are being undertaken and the overall aim is to come up with regulations that can be implemented to ensure sustainable exploitation of inland fisheries.
