To promote wellness, physical activity, and networking among staff, the University of Limpopo Staff Sport Association (ULSSA) participated in the 2025 University Staff Sport and Wellness of South Africa (USSWA) Tournament
This event took place at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha on 10 and 11 October 2025, where ULSSA delivered an outstanding performance, nearly sweeping allΒ categories.
The tournament brought together staff athletes from higher education institutions across South Africa, featuring soccer, netball, supa pool, and volleyball. ULSSA competed against teams from the University of Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela University, Walter Sisulu University, Stellenbosch University, University of the Free State, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of Fort Hare, and Vaal University of Technology, among others.
Throughout the competition, UL displayed teamwork, endurance, and spirit, advancing to the finals in volleyball, supa pool, and netball, while the soccer team was eliminated in the group stages.
In netball, UL defeated Cape Peninsula University of TechnologyΒ 35β25 to win the championship. In volleyball, they triumphed 3β0 against Walter Sisulu University. The supa pool team also excelled, securing a commanding 15β1 victory over Rhodes University, culminating in an impressive tournament run.

In recognition of its remarkable performance and unity across various sports that promote wellness, fitness, and camaraderie, UL was crowned the overall tournament champion.
Victor Makgobela, Chairperson of ULSSA, congratulated the teams on their outstanding achievements, praising their dedication and sportsmanship.
βThis success reflects the importance of staying active, connected, and united as colleagues. Sport is not just about competition; it strengthens our wellness and builds lasting relationships across institutions,β heΒ stated.
Makgobela also noted that ULSSA is eagerly anticipating the South African Universities Staff Sports Association (SAUSSA) Tournament in December, where UL aims to continue promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and professional networking through sport.
