3rd Indigenous Languages and the Media Seminar

The University of Limpopo (UL), in partnership with the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF), Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB), and the National Research Foundation (NRF) through South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), proudly presents the 3rd Indigenous Languages and Media Seminar and the Inaugural UL Community Media Indaba.

The event will take place on 13–14 August 2025 at the Onkgopotse Tiro Hall, University of Limpopo, starting at 08h30.

Under the theme “Voices of the Village: Redefining Storytelling in a Digital Age”, this two-day gathering brings together media professionals, academics, community journalists, students, and cultural practitioners to explore how indigenous languages can be preserved and promoted in today’s fast-changing digital media landscape.

The programme will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and workshops on topics such as reclaiming indigenous languages in media, citizen journalism, AI and tech-driven storytelling, and media ethics in the algorithm age.

This event is a unique platform to redefine African journalism, promote linguistic diversity, and revive the role of community media in shaping narratives that reflect Africa’s cultural realities.
