CALL FOR PAPERS: THE 14TH FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH DAY

CALL FOR PAPERS: THE 14TH FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH DAY

THEME: Advancing Science Through Research: Addressing the Challenges of Climate Change in an Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Date: 17 – 20 SEPTEMBER 2024
Venue: Bolivia Lodge, Polokwane

The Faculty of Science and Agriculture (FSA) will be hosting its 14th annual Postgraduate Research Day (PGRD). The FSAPGRD aims to bring together all postgraduate students and staff to present their research findings. The event is expected to help improve the quality of research, publications and the throughput rate of postgraduate students in the Faculty. Master’s and Doctoral students are expected to contribute through oral presentations. All Honours students are invited to participate through posters including poster-linked speed presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations in the Hons, MSc and PhD categories per School.

It is no longer a question of whether the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has dawned or not. This topic has permeated many areas of our lives, across various disciplines. Therefore, the theme of the FSA Postgraduate Research Day 2024 fits the time and a conference of this calibre.

Standard talk guidelines
Standard talks are for all the categories excluding Honours students. These are 15-minute-long talks (Ms PowerPoint). We recommend 10 minutes for presenting your research and 5 minutes for questions and answers afterwards.

Poster-linked speed talk guidelines:

Speed talks are for all Honours students. These are 5-minute long talks (Ms PowerPoint). We recommend 3 minutes to present research and 2 minutes for questions and answers. Presenters should be concise and show important information. If you’d like to stay on time then consider making at least 5 slides and spending at least 30 seconds on some slides and 1 minute on other slides.

Honours Electronic Poster Submission

All Honours students must submit their electronic posters. Note that access to submit the posters will be given a week before the Research Day and presenters will be notified. Convert the posters to PDF and save your file as e.g. Jo-anne Vuma_SMLS Hons_Chemistry

NB. Honours students MUST NOT print their posters as this is not required in 2024.
