The University of Limpopo (UL) Alumni and Convocation Gauteng Chapter has elected a new leadership team following a successful Elective Conference that united graduates from across the province to reconnect, network, and outline a new direction for the chapter
The newly elected Executive Committee is led by Chairperson Jeffrey Chauke, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from UL. In his acceptance speech, Chauke expressed gratitude to his fellow alumni for their trust and confidence in his leadership.

“We need to re-evaluate the support we provide to our graduates after they complete their qualifications,” he stated. He emphasised the importance of developing initiatives to assist self-funded graduates. “By creating structures to help them settle outstanding fees, we empower them to enter the job market with confidence. We also urge alumni in influential positions to create opportunities for our emerging professionals. As members of the Gauteng Chapter, it is our collective responsibility to drive meaningful change, find solutions for Africa, and advance UL’s mission.”
Chauke, who will lead the Gauteng Alumni Chapter for the next four years, stressed the need for unity and collaboration among alumni to ensure the chapter’s success.
The newly elected executive team includes:
- Deputy Chairperson: Dollars Boloka, Bachelor of Optometry
- Secretary: Owen Malatji, Bachelor of Pharmacy
- Treasurer: Jane Makgopa, BCom Honours in Human Resource Management
- Executive Member: Moloko Maloba, BSc Honours in Applied Mathematics
Xolani Mabila, Deputy President of the UL Alumni and Convocation, applauded the impressive turnout, noting that attendance surpassed previous conferences, reflecting a growing commitment and unity among alumni.
Providing an institutional update, Prof Kwena Masha, UL Registrar and Secretary of Alumni and Convocation, amongst others, announced that the University achieved an unqualified clean audit for the 2024 academic year, reaffirming its commitment to good governance, excellence, and integrity. He encouraged alumni to pursue postgraduate studies and support upcoming leaders through mentorship.
“We are confident that the new leadership will continue to strengthen our chapters,” he said. “We also call on all alumni to support the transition of the incoming Vice-Chancellor and Principal, who will assume office in January 2026.”
