Having been elected for a three-year term in 2022, the University of Limpopo’s (UL) Alumni and Convocation Association Chapter in Limpopo convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to reflect on achievements and the challenges faced during the 2023/24 academic year
Among the highlights of their accomplishments was the vital support for postgraduate students, including the provision of sanitary towels, which addressed a basic yet essential need. The chapter also recognised academic excellence by awarding laptops to top-performing postgraduate students from the Faculties of Humanities, Management and Law, and Science and Agriculture. These initiatives aim to inspire students and provide them with the necessary resources to thrive in their academic pursuits.
During the AGM, Chairperson Lekoko Nkadimeng pointed out the challenges faced by students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. He noted that many lacked essential resources, including funding, prompting the chapter to focus on providing assistance.
In a spirit of community engagement, the chapter also sponsored the University Faculties Sports Days, offering vouchers to the winning teams. “The sports event brought together alumni teams and the university’s sports department, fostering camaraderie among current students and alumni,” Nkadimeng remarked.

Additionally, the chapter collaborated with the Alumni and Convocation Office to support a student intern, providing a stipend, daily meals, and accommodation throughout the internship. “We plan to help this student either secure employment or register for a master’s degree in agriculture for the 2025 academic year,” Nkadimeng added, highlighting their commitment to creating opportunities.
In a significant expansion of their initiatives, the chapter launched a Sector for Alumni with Disabilities. This new sector reunites alumni from the disability community, providing a platform to reconnect and share experiences. The inauguration served to inspire and mentor the 181 students with disabilities currently enrolled at the University, who benefit from the resources available at the Reakgona Disability Centre.
