Theme: Aluta continua: Advancing the ideological baton of the revolutionary feminist
The University of Limpopo will host the 3rd Josephine Moshobane Memorial Lecture to honour Moshobane, a student activist who bravely fought for the liberation of South Africa and tragically lost her life in the process.
Josephine Moshobane was taken by the apartheid regime at the age of 24 after being unjustly arrested and subjected to harsh conditions in prison upon her return from Botswana. She was charged under section 29 of the Internal Security Act of 1982.
Moshobane dedicated her life to advocating for black students’ rights at the former University of the North, now known as the University of Limpopo.
The lecture aims to ensure that her legacy lives on while educating the current generation of students about the university’s history and its role in driving change in South Africa. As a way of honoring her memory, the university renamed one of its first-year female residences after her and unveiled a commemorative plaque during the inaugural lecture.
Guest Speaker:
Hon. Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Limpopo Province Premier.
The lecture will be held as follows:
Date: 27 August 2024
