Background
With support from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an individual health surveillance study was implemented within the DIMAMO HDSS platform. The study responds to South Africa’s dual burden of HIV and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), focusing specifically on individual-level health outcomes. The CDC prioritizes strengthening strategic information systems to monitor HIV prevention, care, and treatment. This study integrates clinical assessments, biomarker testing, and survey data to generate robust evidence on HIV prevalence, treatment outcomes, and comorbid conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.
Aim
To assess the burden of HIV and non-communicable diseases, as well as access to care and healthcare utilisation, through individual-level health assessments within the DIMAMO population.
Objectives
- To measure the burden of HIV and selected NCDs (hypertension, diabetes, and obesity) at the individual level
- To assess uptake of HIV testing and cardiometabolic health screenings
- To evaluate healthcare utilisation patterns among individuals
- To assess HIV treatment outcomes, including viral load suppression
