As the 2026 academic year approaches and many matriculants eagerly await the start of their higher education journey, the University of Limpopo urges prospective students, parents, guardians, and sponsors to remain vigilant. This period often sees an increase in fraudulent activities by scammers posing as University officials, offering false promises of admission and requesting payments under the guise of facilitating registration. The University of Limpopo strongly warns the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such deceptive practices.
The University emphasises that it will never send individuals to request money, banking details, bank card PINs, or any other financial information for purposes of admission or registration. All admissions processes at the University are handled internally through secure, automated systems designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection. No favours, shortcuts, or external interventions can influence the outcome of an application.
All official communication regarding the status of your application will be sent directly by the University via email or SMS, using the contact details you have provided on the University’s ITS system. Prospective students are therefore urged to ensure that their cellphone numbers and email addresses are accurate and up to date. The University also reminds applicants never to share their login credentials, passwords, OTPs, or PINs with anyone. Especially when using public internet facilities such as internet cafés or Wi-Fi hotspots as these can be easily intercepted by fraudsters.
The University firmly cautions: DO NOT TRUST OR PAY ANY PERSON CLAIMING TO SECURE ADMISSION OR REGISTRATION ON YOUR BEHALF. ADMISSION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF LIMPOPO IS BASED ON ACADEMIC MERIT ONLY. Any suspicious conduct, solicitation of money, or offers of fraudulent assistance must be reported immediately to the UL Ethics Hotline at: UL@thehotline.ul.ac.za or via telephone at +27 (0) 15 268 3332.
Prospective students can verify the University’s official banking details by clicking the relevant link on the University’s website. Applicants from other higher education institutions are reminded that disclosure of previous studies is compulsory, regardless of the field of study, whether the programme was completed, or whether credits are intended for transfer. Applicants who have not yet disclosed their previous studies must do so through the “Upload of Documents” section on the student portal. All documents, including academic transcripts, must be certified and uploaded in acceptable formats (e.g., PDF) not exceeding 2MB.
Research Master’s and PhD applicants must additionally submit a Summary of Research Focus (SRF) to assist the University in allocating an appropriate supervisor. The SRF template is available on the University’s website, and all required documents must be uploaded through the student portal using the applicant’s UL reference number.
To check your application status, applicants must use the official status verification link provided on the University website. No communication or notice from any external source is binding unless it originates from the University’s official email servers or is uploaded to the official UL application status portal.
The University also advises students with disabilities to contact the Reakgona Disability Centre (RDC) at: rdc@ul.ac.za prior to commencing their studies. This will allow the RDC to assess and prepare appropriate accommodation and support services based on voluntary disclosure by the student.
