Public Lecture by Dr. Nombulelo Tholithemba

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Limpopo will host a Public Lecture on “Gender, Decolonization, and African Spirituality” on Tuesday, 19 August
2025. The event will take place at the R-40 Conference Hall from 10h00 to 13h00.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Nombulelo Tholithemba Shange, a distinguished sociology lecturer at the University of the Free State, who holds a PhD in Anthropology and a Master’s in Sociology from Rhodes University. With over a decade of teaching experience, Dr. Shange’s research explores indigenous knowledge systems, African indigenous churches, environmental justice, gender, and race discourse.

This public lecture will provide an engaging platform to critically examine the intersections of gender, decolonization, and African spirituality, fostering dialogue on how these themes shape social identities, cultural heritage, and transformative scholarship in Africa. Students, academics, and members of the broader community are invited to attend and contribute to this important conversation.
