TGSL ranked among 10 best MBA offerings in South Africa

The Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership (TGSL) of the University of Limpopo (UL) was ranked among the top 10 business schools in South Africa in the latest Eduniversal Ranking Agency’s evaluation of over 22 schools offering the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme in the country

The Agency provides all stakeholders in higher education with an in-depth view of global academic expertise with the goal of actively supporting international exchanges between schools, encouraging mobility for professors and students, and assisting HR professionals in identifying specialised talent.

The business school offers dynamic management and development education. This is based on a vision to be a leading provider of postgraduate qualifications in business management, development planning, and public management by offering quality programmes, research, and community engagement in Africa and beyond.

The MBA programme offered by TGSL has been serving the needs of government, business, and civil society and is rapidly gaining lustrous prominence across the globe. The TGSL was established in 1996 through a Memorandum of Understanding between the then the University of the North (now University of Limpopo), Baruch College, and the New School for Research in New York City.

The MBA programme is designed to prepare middle and senior managers for high-level strategic roles in the public, private, and entrepreneurial sectors. The two-year programme focuses on economic and social sustainability in Africa, and it creates competitive, ethical leaders who value social responsibility in their pursuit of business and organisational prosperity.

The programme, according to the school’s director, Prof Sipho Mokoena, responds to the management demands of the 21st century.

“The programme is designed to prepare graduates to work as highly effective professionals at all managerial levels, up to and including the board of directors, in any sector of their choice,” he explained.

Prof Mokwena attributes MBA graduates’ success to the mode of delivery, stating that the programme encourages candidates to collaborate in problem-solving exercises and to take ownership of their studies through syndicate groups, networking forums, and other academic activities.

“In addition, seminars and excursions are planned to provide students with life-long experience in leadership and management in a safe environment,” he said, explaining that students are able to meticulously integrate theory into practice through assignments, real-life experience case studies, and projects.

Executives from the public and private sectors, senior students as well as entrepreneurs may find meaningful expression in the programme, which will ultimately improve their industry knowledge and propel them to a higher level of management and leadership.
