The 11th Ongkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture

The iconic Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a prominent political activist, academic, and former Member of the South African Parliament, will deliver a keynote address under the stirring theme: “South Africa at the Crossroads – Invoking the Spirit of Tiro.”

Dr. Ndlozi holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand, with his scholarly work exploring the intersection of politics, identity, and economic justice in Africa. As the former national spokesperson and a founding member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), he played a pivotal role in shaping national conversations on economic inclusion, accountability, and transformation. Today, Dr. Ndlozi continues to influence public discourse through his academic work, policy advisory roles, and thought leadership on the evolving role of civil society, state policy, and leadership in building long-term economic resilience.

This year’s memorial will reflect on the life, courage, and convictions of Onkgopotse Tiro, one of South Africa’s most revered student activists and intellectual revolutionaries. As the nation continues to grapple with pressing socio-political and economic challenges, the event provides a powerful platform to revisit Tiro’s fearless voice and enduring legacy in the pursuit of justice, accountability, and transformative leadership.

The Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture serves as a call to action, encouraging a renewed spirit of youth activism and a commitment to nation-building. It promises to be a moment of deep reflection, critical dialogue, and inspiration for all who attend.
