University of Limpopo Research Administration and Development Call For Supervisor Incentive 2026

The University of Limpopo’s Directorate of Research Administration and Development (DRAD) is pleased to announce the opening of the 2026 Supervisor Incentive Call for eligible staff members who have successfully supervised postgraduate students. This incentive aims to recognise, reward, and encourage supervisors who contribute to the timely completion and quality mentorship of Master’s and Doctoral candidates.

The initiative is designed to support academic excellence by motivating supervisors to take on more postgraduate students and to guide them toward completing their studies within the expected academic timeframe. Monetary incentives will be deposited into the supervisor’s research account and may be used strictly for research-related activities.

Incentive Amounts

  • Full Master’s Dissertation: R10 000
  • Professional/Taught Master’s with 50% Research Component: R8 000
  • Doctoral Thesis: R20 000

Where supervision involves more than one supervisor, the incentive will be allocated in a 60:40 ratio between the supervisor and co-supervisor(s). In cases with multiple co-supervisors, the 40% portion will be shared equally unless an alternative written agreement is submitted.

Submission Process

Supervisors or co-supervisors applying for the incentive must submit:

  • A signed letter of request
  • The student’s academic record
  • A copy of the graduation programme page indicating the student and supervisor/co-supervisor details

All submissions should be directed to: noko.monene@ul.ac.za

Please note: Incentives are only payable in the year the student graduates, and all amounts are calculated based on official graduation programme records.
