University of Limpopo welcomes Vice-Chancellor and Principal Designate

The University of Limpopo (UL) management officially welcomed Dr Jeffrey Mabelebele, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Designate, on Monday, 1 September 2025, his first day on campus following the announcement of his appointment. Coinciding with the start of Spring, this occasion launched a structured handover process, ensuring continuity and stability as the University transitions into a new era of leadership.

The handover comes as Prof Mahlo Mokgalong’s distinguished tenure draws to a close. Dr. Mabelebele will officially assume office as Vice-Chancellor and Principal on January 1, 2026. He is a seasoned higher education executive with extensive leadership experience, having previously served as:

  • Chief Executive Officer of Higher Education South Africa (HESA), now Universities South Africa (USAf)
  • Registrar of the University of Limpopo
  • Registrar and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University
